Questions – Overcoming Your Disappointments (Leaders)

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when dreams come true, there is life and joy. “ Proverbs 13:12a
Aim: To identify unresolved root issues and provide support and encourage the taking of responsibility in overcoming them.
1. Proverbs 13:12a What does this verse mean to you? i.e.
· dreams shattered
· expectations not met
· loss
· confidence broken
· plans dashed
2. Can you think of a time when you have been deeply disappointed? What was the impact on your personal life? i.e.
· grief
· distrust of God or man
· anger
· complaining
· bitterness
· negative talk
· fear withdrawal etc
3. How did you handle it and what choices did you make?
4. What areas of disappointment are still unresolved?
God is always for you and ready to help you overcome
Keys to overcoming
a. Identify areas of disappointment in your life
b. Draw near to God
c. Take responsibility for your own attitude and actions – we are responsible for the feelings we have
d. Repent of unbelief and self-centered expectations – bring your heart to a place of trusting in God
e. Spend time in the word of God – listen to the Lord
f. Embrace the cross, i.e. Deny self and stand up on the inside
g. Renew your commitment to Gods call and His purposes for you life
